Top 40 Mainstream, also known as Pop Songs, is an airplay chart from Billboard magazine. It was often mistaken for and confused with the now discontinued Pop 100 Airplay charts (formerly Top 40 Tracks)[by whom?]. Whereas the Top 40 Mainstream charts and Pop 100 Airplay both measured the airplay of songs played on Mainstream stations playing pop-oriented music, the Pop 100 Airplay (like the Hot 100 Airplay) measures airplay was based on statistical impressions , while the Top 40 Mainstream chart used the number of total detections. [clarification needed] Arbitron sometimes refers to the format as Pop Contemporary Hit Radio. In the June 20, 2009 issue the Top 40 Mainstream chart replaced the Pop 100 Airplay chart. Mariah Carey is the musical act with the most Top 40 Mainstream Radio Airplay Chart entries and number ones - she has had 29 charted songs with six of them reaching #1. Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce Knowles , Avril Lavigne and Lady Gaga are on the second place , each of them having five no. 1 hits, with Boyz II Men and Black Eyed Peas being the most succesful bands, with three number ones each.
