Riki de la Puente (Sr.) was inspired to start throwing by her brother when she was young. She threw in middle school and became a record holder in seventh grade. Now, she excels in both the discus and shot put events as a member of University High School (UHS) Track Team.
De la Puente was almost convinced to try hurdles, but decided that her love for throwing was too strong. She has since stuck with her decision to focus on shot put and discus. Mrs. Young Class

Mrs. Young’s class is performing science experiments related to plants. Johnny Martinez is observing different kinds of seeds germinating (starting to grow). Jenna Robles is testing how temperature and gravity affect the germination of seeds. Arturo Ledezma is comparing four plants to see if plants need air , water, soil, and light to grow. Abeer Mohammad is finding out what happens when a plant population is too dense (thick). Marilyn Rodriguez covered some leaves of a plant with black paper to see is a plant needs sunlight to grow. Angel Johnson is testing to see is plants grow towards the light. The experiments should be completed next week and the students will present their projects to the class.
